About Julia Morgan
The Potrero Hill Neighborhood House was designed by Julia Morgan (1872-1957), one of the most prolific and important architects of the early 20th century. Morgan was the first woman licensed as an architect in California and went on to design over 700 buildings throughout her career.
She is best known for designing Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California, but her portfolio includes hundreds of other significant works, including private residences, churches, schools, and community buildings throughout California and beyond.
The Neighborhood House, completed in 1910, exemplifies Morgan's commitment to creating beautiful, functional spaces that serve the community. Her design features high ceilings, beautiful architectural details, excellent natural light, and a timeless elegance that continues to inspire over a century later.
